A cupcake Mario in his frog suit from Super Mario Bros. 3.
SMB 3 is one of the best games ever made. I have fond memories of tiny flying goombas, hopping around in a giant green shoe, and swimming about in a frog suit. Here’s how to make a cupcake out of that last item!
Tiny chocolate chips
Green food coloring paste
Brown food coloring paste
Blue decorators’ gel
Bake the cupcakes with a recipe of your choice and allow to cool.
When the cupcakes are ready to be decorated, warm up a 1/2 cup of frosting in the microwave for about 5 seconds. 30 seconds will turn the frosting into a bubbling lava, from one who knows. If that happens, add some more frosting to cool things down.
Add a squirt of green food paste for that nice bright color and mix into the warmed frosting.
Pour the frosting into a ziplock bag. Snip off a tiny corner off the ziplock bag.
Gently squeeze the bag and outline the froggy part of the cupcake. Fill in the outline.
Add the green M&Ms. Squeeze a tiny bit of frosting to the back of the chocolate chip to glue to the M&M.
Warm up another 1/2 cup of frosting in the microwave. Dip a toothpick into brown food paste and mix into the frosting.
Pour frosting into a ziplock bag and fill in the rest of the cupcake to create the face.
Take a chocolate cookie and slice in half. I used a cookie cutter for the mustache design, but eyeballing it with a knife would work just peachy. If the cookie is hard, warming it up in the microwave will soften it up a bit.
Once you have the mustache shape, place it on the bottom of the cupcake. Add a little bit of frosting around the top of the mustache to help define the nose.
Draw on the eyes with the white frosting and blue decorator’s gel.
Makes enough for half a dozen cupcakes.
