Piranha Plant Candy

Piranha Plants from Super Mario Bros. created from candy melts. These candies are easy to make and come together quickly. The stuff you’ll need –

1/2 cup red candy melts
1/4 cup green candy melts
1/4 cup white candy melts
Green food spray

3 Sealable plastic bags
10 Lollipop sticks

Wax paper
Cookie sheet
Styrofoam block, or something else to hold the lollipop sticks.

With these amounts and sizes, I was able to fit ten piranha plants on a cookie sheet. You can pack more plants on the cookie sheet with smaller leaves.

First thing to do is take a lollipop stick and score the stick in the middle with the scissors.

Bend the lollipop stick until it breaks in two.

Once all of your sticks are split in two, place the sticks into a piece of Styrofoam or some other holder. I thought I had a piece of Styrofoam around, but I couldn’t find it, so I used a couple slices of bread. Worked out okay.

The food color spray I used.

Take the food color spray and spray your sticks. Allow them to dry for about 15 minutes.

Once the sticks are dry, trim the white tip off the sticks.

Take a piece of wax paper and place the wax paper on a cookie sheet.

Take the white candy melts and microwave them at 15 second intervals, mixing after every interval until they are fully melted. Scoop into a sealable bag.

Snip off the tip of the bag and, on the wax paper, draw the white mouth and dots.

Once you’ve completed all the white parts, take the red candy melts and melt in the microwave, again going at 15 second intervals. Scoop into a sealable bag and snip the corner. Draw the red body of the piranha plant, going over the white dots.

After you’ve added the red body to a plant, place a green lollipop stick on the body of the plant.

Place more red candy melt over the top of the stick to secure it to the plant.

Repeat for all plants.

One more microwave round for the candy melts! Take the green candy melts, microwave at 15 second intervals, and place into a sealable bag. Snip the tip of the bag and draw a leaf on each side of the stick.

Place the cookie sheet with the candies into the freezer for about an hour.

When the candies have set, gently pull on the stick to release the plant from the paper.
