I was originally planning to do another sort Ninja Gaiden themed cookie but I didn’t have the proper cookie cutter! Oh nos. Luckily I had these ninja cookie cutters on hand so I could still do the ninja theme. I’ve just been in a ninja sort of mood.
What makes these cookies is Ninja Gaiden cookies is the color; we’re not getting too fancy with this one. I was debating adding a toothpick for the sword…but that’s getting a little too deadly.
Sugar cookie dough
Edible black food marker
For the royal icing:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 teaspoons meringue powder
~1 tablespoon water
Royal blue food coloring
Sealable plastic bag
Ninja cookie cutters
Preheat oven to 350°F!
Roll out the dough so it’s about 1/4″ thick. Cut out the ninja shapes.
Bake for about eight minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. Allow to cool.
For the royal icing, mix together powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water. You wanted the consistency of the royal icing to be that when lift the mixer, drops of royal icing stay on the surface for a few seconds before melting back. If it’s too thick, add a bit more water.
Add the blue food coloring. I had to add a half dozen drops or so.
Once the color is fully incorporated, scoop into the sealable plastic bag. Seal and snip off the tip.
Outline the head, vest, and pantloons of the ninja, filling in each section as you go. You want to work fairly quickly so everything blends together.
Allow the cookies to sit for at least a few hours. Overnight is even better.
Once the royal icing has hardened, take the black food marker and outline the ninja.
Add the lines for the ninja cowl and the waist. On some of the cookies I added the shin guards and wrist braces, just for kicks.
The marker will take a few minutes to dry, then you’re done!
As a side note, I’m on Twitter, so if you’d like to see something in particular on here, just give me a Tweet – suggestions are always welcome!
