Vanilla cupcakes with baked in red hearts, topped with vanilla frosting and sprinkles.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, heart cookie cutters are abound! Here’s how to create a life meter inside of a cupcake.
1 box of white cake mix (or a cake recipe of your choice)
2 cups white frosting
Red food coloring
Small heart cookie cutter
8″ square glass pan
This recipe based off the Made with Love by Me recipe!
Prepare your cupcake butter!
Once mixed, take 1/3 of the cupcake batter and cling wrap the batter. We’ll be using this to fill up the cupcake tins later.
With the larger portion of the cupcake batter, add a few drops of red food coloring until the batter is a nice bright red.
Spray your an 8″ glass pan with cooking spray and pour the red cupcake mix into the pan.
Bake for about 10 minutes, or until a toothpick poked into the center comes out clean.
Allow the sheet of red cake to cool. You can pop the cake into the fridge to help it cool a little more quickly.
After the cake as cooled, place the cake on a cutting board and being cutting out hearts. You’ll want three hearts per cupcake.
Once the hearts are all cut out (that doesn’t kinda harsh, doesn’t it?) pour about an half inch of cupcake batter into a cupcake container.
Squeeze three hearts together and place alongside in the cupcake container. Add batter until the tops of the hearts are reached. Repeat for all cupcakes.
Bake 6-8 minutes or until a toothpick poked in the near-center comes out clean. (If you poke into the center, chances are you’ll hit one of the hearts!)
Allow to cool.
Once the cupcakes have cooled off, frost cupcakes with vanilla frosting and add heart sprinkles. Repeat for all cupcakes.
