Sugar cookies based off the pastel sugar hearts with the quirky sayings.
Instead of “quirky sayings” we’re going with “geeky sayings!”
Ingredients:
Sugar cookies
Green food coloring
Yellow food coloring
Orange food coloring
Purple food coloring
Fushia or pink food coloring
A few conversation hearts (optional)
Ingredients for Royal Icing:
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons meringue powder
Several tablespoons warm water (3-4)
The royal icing will be enough for a dozen large cookies.
Roll out the dough so it’s between 1/8″-1/4″ thick. I used a larger heart cookie cutter to give a little more leniency when writing out the sayings. I have shaky hands. Too much coffee, I think, but I love it too much to give it up.

Bake the cookies and allow to cool.

For the royal icing, mix together the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and warm water until the mixture is glossy. You’ll want the icing a bit thick, too.
My large heart cookies took roughly two and half tablespoons of royal icing per cookie to frost, but your amount needed per cookie may vary based on your cookie size.
Scoop out some royal icing into another bowl for coloring. Dip the end of a toothpick into the food coloring and add to your bowl of royal icing. Because the conversation hearts are pastel so you only need a teeny tiny bit of coloring. If you have conversation heart candies on hand, you can compare colors to see if you’re getting the proper shade for your icing.

Mix in the coloring, then scoop the royal icing into a ziplock bag. Seal the bag and snip the corner off.
Color in the cookie by first outlining a heart, then color it in. Repeat for all the rest of the colors, except for the fuchsia/hot pink color.

Before adding the sayings, allow the royal icing to harden (takes about 45 minutes).
Mix in the fuchsia food coloring to the rest of the royal icing and use that color to draw your sayings on the cookies.

Many thanks to the suggestions for the below sayings! The only one I could come with was “U NOOB.” I got a little excited when frosting that one and mucked up the “B.” Oop.

This idea is awesome!!! And they are so colourful.
I tried some myself, however with black and white chocolate, as I’m not good with royal icing.
Put some pictures on my blog. =)
Great idea! Loved making them!
