GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System), the AI guide from Portal, comes to you in delicious cupcake core form!

Ingredients:
Cupcakes
White frosting
1 cup white candy melts
Black gel
Black food coloring
Gummy candies (blue, yellow, red, and purple, but you don't need all of the colors)

Ingredients for Royal Icing (for half a dozen cupcakes) :
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoons meringue powder
Several tablespoons warm water (2-3)

After baking your cupcakes of choice and allowing them to cool, take the white candy melts and zap them for 30 seconds in the microwave. After the timer goes off, stir, and place back into the microwave for another 30 seconds. Repeat until the candy melts are completely melted.

Take a cupcake and dip into the bowl of candy melts. Repeat for all cupcakes. The candy melts will begin to harden, so you'll want to be quick!

Take a gummy and push on top of the black gel. The colors of the GlaDOS cores are blue, yellow, red, and purple. My bag of gummy candies had reds, oranges, and yellows, so no cool colors for my cupcakes.

When you're ready to use the royal icing, mix together the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and one tablespoon of warm water. Add a tiny bit more water if the mixture is too thick.

Leaving a few tablespoons of royal icing in the bowl, take the rest and add a tiny bit of black food coloring, just to give it a gray tint. The smaller amount of royal icing can be dyed black. Once both colors have been fully incorporated, scoop the icings into sealable plastic bags.

Cut off the corner of the bag with the gray royal icing, and draw the following outline on all of the cupcakes:

This Kingdom Heart cookie suggestion comes from Peter R.! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, heart cookie cutters are abound.

Ingredients:
Chocolate sugar cookie dough
Royal icing
Black food coloring
Red food coloring

Ingredients for Royal Icing (for a half-dozen large cookies):
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons meringue powder
Several tablespoons warm water (4-6)

Hardware:
Large heart cookie cutter
Large star cookie cutter

Preheat oven to 350F.

The large heart and star cookie cutters.

Roll out your cookie dough to about 1/4" thickness. You'll want the cookies pretty thick.

Use the heart and star cookie cutters to cut out the cookies. Cut off two points of the star cookie so it that it fits with the bottom of the heart. Push and slightly mush the two cookie parts together.

Cookies ready to be baked.

Bake cookies for 6-8 minutes.

Allow the cookies to cool.

While the cookies are cooling, it's time to put the royal icing together! Mix together the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and three tablespoons of warm water until the mixture is thick and glossy. Add a touch more warm water if the mixture is too thick. You'll want a strand of icing to sit on top of the surface for a few seconds.

Scoop 3/4th of the icing into a bowl and add black food coloring. Once the color has been fully incorporated, scoop the icing into a plastic, sealable bag. The rest of the icing should be dyed a nice bright red. Scoop up the red icing into another plastic bag and seal.

Take the black royal icing bag and cut off the end of the bag. Pick out a cookie and outline the cookie in black icing. Fill in the icing outline.

Iced cookies.

Allow the cookies to sit for several hours, overnight if you can. Royal icing takes a rather long time to dry.

Once the black royal icing has set, take the red icing bag and snip off the end. Outline the cookie with the red icing.

A friendly fellow who goes by the name "PT" pointed out some tasty Vault Boy cookies over at the Bethesda blog. Vault Boy is a great idea; it's perfect for the gingerbread cookie cutter!

I'd been calling these guys "pip boys," but as it turns out, that's not the proper term. So says the Fallout Wiki -

...While the name of the Vault-Tec mascot (round ears, blond hair, blue and yellow Vault jumpsuit) is not present in the actual original games, according to Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain, he was always referred to as Vault Boy or Fallout Boy, not Pip-Boy (although neither of these names actually appears in-game, and the Fallout manual calls him "Vault-Man").

So Vault Boy it is!

Ingredients:
Sugar cookie dough
Royal icing
Sky blue, brown, yellow, and black food coloring
Black food marker

Ingredients for Royal Icing (for a dozen cookies):
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons meringue powder
Several tablespoons warm water (4-6)

Roll out your cookie dough to about 1/4" thickness. Use a gingerbread man cookie cutter to cut out the cookies and place on a cookie sheet.

To give the thumbs-up pose, curl one arm down on the hip, the other in the air, like so:

Before pose...

...and after pose.

Bake cookies for 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown.

Allow the cookies to cool.

Royal icing time! Mix together the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and four tablespoons of warm water until the mixture is thick and glossy. Add more warm water if the mixture is too thick. You'll want it thick enough so when you lift your spoon and let the icing drip back into the bowl, the strand of icing will stay on the surface for a few seconds.

Take 1/2 of the royal icing and add the blue food coloring. Pour into a sealable plastic bag and snip the tip of the corner off.

Take a cookie and draw the outline of a jumpsuit with the bag of icing. Fill in the outline. Repeat for all cookies.

Jumpsuits completed.

Booties completed.

Take 1/2 of the remaining icing and dip a toothpick into the brown food coloring, then add to the white icing. You want the white icing to have a little color, but not too much.

Draw the head and hands, then fill.

Hands and faces completed.

Allow the cookies to set overnight for the royal icing to harden. Before packing everything away, take the rest of the royal icing, add yellow food coloring, then scoop into a bag. We'll use this coloring for tomorrow.

The next day, draw the Vault Boy face onto the cookie. Don't use a lot of force in case the royal icing is still a little soft. I like to do a practice run on a slice of paper before getting to the cookies.

Ingredients for Royal Icing (for a dozen cookies):
2 cups powdered sugar
1 and 1/2 tablespoons meringue powder
Several tablespoons warm water (2-4)

You'll want the sugar cookie dough to be a little chilly when rolling out the dough, it'll help the soldiers keep their shape.

Roll out your cookie dough to a 1/4" thickness. Use a gingerbread man cookie cutter to cut out the shapes and place on a cookie sheet.

Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown.

A little toasty!

I'll be honest, these cookies are a little overdone. Instead of watching the cookies lovingly, I was mucking around with wrapping presents. So, these are extra crispy sugar cookies.

Allow the cookies to cool.

For the royal icing, mix together the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and two tablespoons of warm water until the mixture is thick and glossy. You want it pretty thick so the icing won't run off the cookie.

Take 1/3 of the royal icing and add the red food coloring. Pour into a sealable plastic bag and snip the tip of the corner off.

Take a cookie and draw the outline of a shirt.

Partly dressed!

Add black food coloring to the reminding icing. You might need to add a teaspoon of warm water if the icing has thickened at this point. Once the color is fully incorporated, scoop into plastic bag and cut the corner. Outline the pants and fill in.

Repeat for all cookies.

You should still have a good amount of black icing left. Don't throw this away as we'll need this icing for more decorations.

Allow the cookies to sit for a few hours or overnight to set. This is important! Otherwise your colors will bleed into each other at the next step.

The next day, snip a bigger corner off the plastic bag of black royal icing.

Intensely hued mini Katamari! The candy melt colors are so vibrant that there's no need to mess around with food coloring.

Ingredients:
Box of cake mix and its required ingredients
3/4 cup cream cheese frosting
Bag of M&Ms, all colors welcome
Bag of small M&Ms
Candy Melts, any color (I used red, orange, and green)

First thing to do is to get the cake balls going!

Follow the instructions on the back of the cake box. It doesn't matter if you use two cake pans or a rectangular pan as the cake will be crumbled in the end.

Bake the cake and allow to cool.

Crush the cake into a large bowl with your mighty hands. Add the cream cheese frosting and mix.

Form into balls about the size of a walnut. Place the balls on a cookie sheet covered with waxed paper and pop into the freezer for about 10 minutes, or until they are cold.

Microwave 1/2 cup of candy melts 30 seconds at a time until fully melted, stirring between each interval.

...and after!

Save a little bit of candy melt by scooping it into a sealable plastic bag.

Take a cold cake ball from the freezer and drop into the bowl of melted candy. Roll the ball around with a spoon until it's fully coated. You don't want the cake ball swimming around in the melted candy for too long, else the cake will soften too much and then you'll have cake and candy soup. And then you'll have to eat it.

Cake ball in the mix.

Lift out the coated cake ball with a spoon and knock the spoon against the side of the bowl to get rid of access candy. Place on a sheet covered with waxed paper.

Repeat to coat all cake balls.

Once all the balls have been candy coated, it's time to apply the M&Ms! Take a ziplock bag that has the bit of candy melt in it and snip a tiny corner off. Squeeze a dab of candy melt onto a cake ball.

With 3D Realms recently going under and the recent lawsuit by Take-Two against 3DR for not coming up with a game, I have a solution for this unhappy situation in the game development world. That solution is: cupcakes! Okay, it's only a temporary solution, but cupcakes make everyone happy, and the more happiness the better I say.

Ingredients:
Box of chocolate cake mix
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
4 eggs
1/4 cup butter
1 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Ingredients for frosting:
Cream cheese frosting
2 teaspoons grated orange rind

Preheat oven to 350°F!

Mix together the chocolate cake mix, eggs, orange juice, butter, and vanilla extract.

Vrooooom!

Microwave the chocolate chips 10 seconds at a time until melted. Or, you can do what I did; I zapped the chocolate chips until they were mostly melted. This way the cupcakes would have tiny bits of chocolate in them.

Add the chocolate chips to the cake mix and stir.

Spoon the mix into the cupcake pan. Fill the containers so they're about 3/4 of the way full.

Bake for 16-18 minutes or until a toothpick poked in a cupcake comes out clean.

Allow the cupcakes to cool.

For the frosting, grate two teaspoons of orange rind. Add the orange rind to the cream cheese frosting and mix well.

This is completely optional, but you'd like, you can add a touch of yellow food coloring for a bit more color.

      Mr. Saturn's favorite dessert.
The Mr. Saturns from Earthbound have made an appearance before on this site, but this recipe's about one of their preferred foods: the peanut cheese bar! This food, along with piggy jelly, make up the main diet of Mr. Saturns. The dessert version of one of Mr. Saturns' favorites foods would go a little something like this –

This recipe is based off a Betty Crocker peanut butter bar recipe.

Ingredients:
One packet of peanut butter cookie mix
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon water
1 egg
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup whipped cream (I used Cool Whip)
Cooking spray

For the Mr. Saturns (optional)
3 tablespoons Cool Whip
Brown food coloring
Chocolate jimmies
Black sprinkles
Red sprinkles

Preheat oven to 350°F!

Blend together the peanut butter cookie dough mix with the oil, water, and egg. For a thick cookie base, use a 8x8-inch pan. For a thinner cookie base, use a 13x9-inch pan. Spray whichever pan you prefer with cooking spray.

Press the cookie dough into the bottom of the pan.

Dough ready for baking.

For the larger pan it will take 10-12 minutes to bake, the smaller pan will take 18-20 minutes. The cookie base will be done when the middle of the pan is golden brown.

Allow the pan of baked cookie dough to cool.

For the top layer, mix together the softened cream cheese, peanut butter, powdered sugar and whipped cream (already whipped if you didn't use Cool Whip) on low, else the powdered sugar will go flying everywhere. Once the ingredients are incorporated, mix on high for two minutes.

Pour and spread the topping on the cookie base.

Pop into the fridge for 30 minutes to allow the top layer to set. Once the top layer has firmed up, cut into bars.

If you'd like, you can make tiny Mr. Saturns on top the bars! To make the Mr. Saturns, dip the tip of a toothpick into the brown food coloring, add to the 3 tablespoons of Cool Whip, and blend. Scoop the Cool Whip into a ziplock bar and snip the corner off.

Draw the round body and two round feet on top of the bar.

For eyes, add two black sprinkles. This is delicate work, so I used a toothpick to help nudge the eyes into place.

For the top knot, add a chocolate jimmy. I had some red heart sprinkles around, so I used those, but red sprinkles would also work well for the bow. One the top knot is finished, you're done!

With the new content coming out today for Left4Dead I figured it was the perfect time to put together Survivor cookies!

Ingredients:
Sugar cookie dough
Fondant
Corn starch or powdered sugar
Frosting
White, brown, green, and yellow food colorings
Black food coloring pen

Cut out your sugar cookies with a circular cookie cutter, bake, and allow to cool.

When you're feeling sassy and ready for decorating, break out the fondant, frosting, and food coloring.

The peach fondant can be made with just a hint of brown food coloring. The tip of a toothpick dipped into the food coloring and then worked into the fondant will give a good color.

Peachy fondant
· Zoey's, Francis', and Bill's face

Light brown fondant
· Louis' face

Dark brown fondant
· Zoey's hair
· Francis' hair
· Francis' frowny eyebrows
· Francis' goatee
· Louis' eyebrows

Green fondant
· Bill's cap

Yellow fondant
· Bill's cap adornment

White fondant
· Bill's eyebrows
· Bill's beard

Dust down some corn starch or powdered sugar to prevent the fondant from sticking. Roll out the fondant until it's thin, about a couple of millimeters. Cut out the faces by using the same cookie cutter as you did the for the cookies.

Add a small amount of frosting to the top of a cookie and lightly press the fondant on top. Repeat for all cookies.

For Zoey's hair, use the cookie cutter to cut out another circle. This way you can make sure the edges of her hair match up with the face fondant. Use a toothpick to outline her hair, then use a knife to cut the shape out of the circle of fondant. Bill's cap and beard also can be cut out using the cookie cutter to get the proper shape.

Zoey's hair.

Work the various food colorings into the fondant and cut out the shapes as needed. Add the different bits of fondant to the cookie by pasting them on with a bit of frosting.

Once the fondant's on, it's time to draw! You can find a food coloring pen at a local crafts store. I used a fine tipped pen, but the tip was still a little big, so I had to be careful drawing.

Pop them in the freezer for an hour or so for them to firm up.

To create the bottom part of the goomba, take a small, circular cookie cutter and insert into the bottom of the cake ball. You'll want more than an 1/2" of an inch for the base.

After all the goomba shapes have been created, pop back in the freezer while you're melting the chocolate. You'll want the cake balls pretty firm so they don't break apart in the melted chocolate.

Melt the chocolate candy melts in the microwave by zapping them for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each interval. Once fully melted, take a goomba and, holding it by the base, dip the top end in the chocolate. Repeat for all goombas.

For the eyes, you can use thick white royal icing or fondant. I went with fondant for the eyes and tried out black fondant, black royal icing, and mini M&Ms for the pupils. The black royal icing was the best out the three for me. The M&Ms were a little big and the black fondant was harder to get to stick than the royal icing.

Use black and white fondant or black and white royal icing (what I used) for the mouth and teeth.

PaRappa the Rapper, released in the mid 1990s, was one of the first rhythm video games of its time. Some of the songs were awfully catchy; take Chop Chop Mr. Onion and the Car Rap for instance. Where does this game fit in with sugary treats? In the PlayStation game, PaRappa is trying win the heart of Sunny Funny, a flower. With Spring bakeware abound, a flower cookie cutter and pastel food colorings are easy to find.

Ingredients:
Sugar cookie dough
Royal icing
Pink, yellow, red, and black food coloring

Ingredients for Royal Icing (for a dozen cookies):
2 cups powdered sugar
1 and 1/2 tablespoons meringue powder
Several tablespoons warm water (2-4)

Roll out your cookie dough to a 1/4" thickness. Cut out the flower shape and bake.

For these cupcakes I used whatever baking goodies were around the place. Well, except for the fondant. I confess I picked up a bag of that at the local grocery store, which just started carrying it. I couldn't resist trying it out. The store's also now carrying meringue powder for royal icing! Hoorah!

Ingredients:
Cupcakes
Fondant
Frosting
Royal icing (optional, you can using more frosting if you'd like)
A few tablespoons of powdered sugar or corn starch
Black food coloring
Red sprinkles

Take a cupcake and lightly frost the top. This will help the fondant stick the cupcake, so you don't need to go all-out nutty with the frosting.

Dip a toothpick into the black food coloring and dip it into the fondant.

Repeat for all cupcakes.

I had some white royal icing around, but if you'd rather use frosting, that'll work just as well. To create the Horde logo, I found it was easiest to create the hairpin shape – straight line, oval, and then another straight line – first and then add the pointy notches of the logo. If you're using royal icing, you'll have to be quick before the icing starts to harden.

Pikachu's such a popular little guy that he no doubt has his very own cookie cutter. With a little trimming, a bunny cookie cutter will work just as well, plus they're especially easy to find this time of year. They're usually right next to the Cadbury Eggs. (Not a huge fan of those chocolates, but I love the Cadbury bunny. Buckbuckbuckbuckbuck.)

Ingredients:
Sugar cookie dough
Chocolate M&Ms
Red mini M&Ms
Yellow food coloring
Black food coloring

Ingredients for Royal Icing (for a dozen cookies):
2 cups powdered sugar
1 and 1/2 tablespoons meringue powder
Several tablespoons warm water (2-4)

Dust down some flour and roll out your cookie dough so it's about 1/4" thick. Cut out the bunny shape with the lightly floured cookie cutter.

Because this cookie cutter has poochey cheekies, I used a circular cookie cutter on the edges to round the face out. Pikachu has pointier ears than a bunny, so a knife was used to slim them down.

For the royal icing, mix together the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and two tablespoons of warm water until the mixture is thick and glossy. If it's too thick and not easily stirred, add another tablespoon of water to the mix.

Scoop 3/4th of a cup of royal icing into a separate bowl. Add the yellow food coloring and mix. Spoon the yellow royal icing into a ziplock bag, seal, and snip the corner off.

Using the plastic bag, color in Pikachu except for the tips of the ears. We'll get those with black icing later.

Once all your cookies have been iced, you'll have to decide if you'd like to have whites on the eyes or not. If so, leave three to four tablespoons of icing in the bowl for the eyes. Otherwise, you can dye the rest of the icing black.

If the black icing is a little runny, add a little more powdered sugar. Pour the black icing in a plastic bag, seal, snip, and color in the ears.

I played Noby Noby Boy for the first time this past weekend. My favorite part is being able to control the hinder. I did keep falling out of sandbox world, so maybe I was having a little too much fun with that bit. I'd like to muck around with the game a bit more, but for now, cupcakes!

Ingredients:
12 vanilla cupcakes
1/2 cup vanilla frosting
Purpley-pinkish food coloring
36 brown mini M&Ms
12 red mini M&Ms
24 chocolate M&Ms

Put together a vanilla cupcake recipe of your fancy. Fill the containers 3/4th full so you'll get a puffy top.

Once the cupcake have baked, allow them to cool.

When you're ready to decorate, take the 1/2 cup of vanilla frosting, add a few drops of food coloring, and mix.

Frost the cupcake. You'll want to be generous when frosting; if you try to spread it around too thinly the crumbs will mix in. And that would be no good. No good at all.

Using a circular cookie cutter that's a wee bit smaller than the cupcake, cut a circle out of the top of the cupcake.

Place the top of the cupcake back on the rest of the cupcake and give it a little pat.

Add a dab of frosting to back of three brown mini M&Ms and one red M&M to secure the eyes, nose, and mouth to the top of the cupcake.

The dough and royal icing recipes comes from the wondrous Joy of Baking site. We're using chocolate cookies as to get a dark backdrop for the Space Invaders dudes. This game is over 30 years old!

Ingredients:
2 3/4 cups flour
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup (two sticks) unsalted butter
1 3/4 cups granulated white sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Ingredients for Royal Icing:
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons meringue powder
1/2 cup warm water
Red, orange, green, etc. food colorings of your choice

Allow the butter to come to room temperature or soften it up in the microwave. You'll want it soft, but not melted. Blend in the sugar.

Beat in the eggs and mix in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking powder.

...I tried to be careful but a tiny bit of the dry mixture escaped anyway.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. This is going to make for a pretty thick dough. I added the dry mixture to my mixer and stirred slowly (the cocoa powder makes quite a cloud when stirred), then finished the mixing by hand because it was so thick.

If your dough is a little soft, pop in the fridge for about 30 minutes for it to harden. This will make it easier to work with when cutting out the shapes.

Once you're ready to cut out the circles, sprinkle out a little flour and roll out your dough so it's about 1/4 inch thick.

Using a circular cookie cutter, cut out the shapes and place on a cookie sheet. I used a larger cookie cutter so I could create larger space invaders on the cookies.

Pop into a a preheated 350F oven for 10-15 minutes.

Cool the cookies to cool.

For the royal icing, whisk together the powdered sugar and meringue powder.

Add warm water to the royal icing until it's smooth and glossy. You'll want it pretty thick so the Space Invader designs will hold their shape.

Spoon a few tablespoons – the amount depends on how many cookies of this color you'll want to frost – of the royal icing into a bowl. Add a drop of your color of choice and mix.

Scoop the colored royal icing into a plastic bag and seal. Snip the tip of the bag off.

Draw the Space Invader of your choice onto the cookie using the bag of royal icing and allow it to set. Because the icing is so thick, it'll be a few hours before it completely hardens.

Using 3" cookies, you'll get a little over two dozen chocolate cookies.
