Animal Crossing Tom Nook Cupcakes

Animal Crossing Tom Nook CupcakesA cupcake ode to the main economic force in Animal Crossing, storekeeper Tom Nook.

Animal Crossing is such fun. I’ve played both the GameCube and DS versions, sinking countless hours into both. Tom Nook is a friendly, sleepy face that owns a shop full of goodies for sale. Checking his daily inventory was my favorite part of the game.
Ingredients:

Use your favorite chocolaty cupcake recipe, or see the Ghosts ‘n Goblins Graveyard Cupcakes for a good one.

Ingredients for the toppings:

Hello friend!
Milk chocolate frosting, mine came out a can.
Chocolate sprinkles
Hershey Kisses
Junior Mints
Brown M&Ms
White frosting
Tiny blue candies

Whip up your favorite chocolate cupcake recipe.

Num num num.

Bake at 350F for about 15 minutes. The cupcakes are done when a knife comes out clean.
Frost the cupcake after it has cooled completely.

The beginning!

Pinch some dark sprinkles and carefully sprinkle over the cupcake to create the raccoon mask.

Cheekies.

Push in the Junior Mints near the top of the cupcake for the ears. You might want to use a knife to poke a spot for the ear if the Junior Mint isn’t going in easily; these candies tend to break if met with too much force. Although, I didn’t mind when that happened. If they broke, I figured I had to eat them so they wouldn’t go to waste.
Squirt some white frosting for the eyes and place a blue candy for the eyeball.

Surprised.

Tom Nook looks a little surprised.

My first go at the eyes used mini marshmallows instead of white frosting, but they made Tom Nook look like his eyes were bugging out. I also tried using blue frosting for the eyeballs instead of blue candies, but that turned out to be a little awkward, and the frosting tended to smear. Perhaps someone with less shaky hands would be better apt at that frosting technique.
Add the Hershey kiss for the snoot!

So much chocolate!
Most of the candies used.

Cut a brown M&M in half for the lids to complete the eyes. Be careful – every time I cut a candy in half, one of the halves fired across the room! I managed to find all the stray bits, but it does add an element of action to this cooking adventure.
After adding the M&Ms, you’re done!

I haven't booted this game up in ages.

That’s me in my sweet cow skull hat (of course Animal Crossing could make a cow skull look cute) and strawberry dress. Animal Crossing is so great.
