Gears of War 2 Brownies

Gears of War 2 BrowniesFudgy brownies adorned with the Gears of War 2 logo.

Brownies are used for a reason; there is a method behind the madness! Brownies tend to have a crumbly top, which is exactly what you want to create the distressed look for the Gears of War 2 logo. A sugar cookie with royal icing would give a smooth look, which is quite nice and all, but not what we're going for here. We need something dark and crumbly. And nothing else fits the bill that like a rich, fudgy brownie.

4 squares Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate
3/4 cups butter
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
Red decorator's gel
Black decorator's gel

Preheat oven to 350°F!

Melt the chocolate squares in the microwave, stirring every 20 seconds. If you go too long between stirs, the chocolate will burn, and that's stinky and hard to clean up.

Once the chocolate is melted, pour into a large bowl. Melt the butter in the microwave and blend in with the chocolate.

Pour in the two cups of sugar. Yep, two cups! It looks like a lot - and it is - but you'll need it to balance out the unsweetened chocolate.

Add the eggs, vanilla, and blend.

Mix in the cup o'flour.

Scoop up the thick batter and drop it into a greased pan. I used 9"X9", but you can use a 9"x13" as well.

A pan of 9"x9" took 45 minutes to bake. It's a dense dough, so it'll take awhile to bake through. You'll know the brownies are done when a toothpick poked in the middle of the pan comes out clean.

Allow brownies to cool.

Take a circular cookie cutter and cut out a brownie.

Using red gel, draw the outside wheel and then the head of the skeleton inside. You can use red frosting, but that'll make for a more solid logo and you'll lose the see-through abilities that help with the distressed look.

Add the black gel for the eyes and mouth. Wave around a toothpick in the mouth part to create the pointy teeth. Dab black gel with the toothpick for the nose. If you want to get extra fancy, you can smudge the edges of the logo with your finger to rough 'em up a bit.

The red drip off the logo can be drawn down the side of the brownie.

One fierce lookin' brownie.

My 9"x9" pan made for six brownies with lots of leftover bits from the circular cutouts. Those leftover bits are perfect for small snacking. From one who knows!
