Burgertime Cookie Burgers
January 17, 2008

Burgertime Cookie BurgersCute little cookie burgers.

Burgertime! A game from the 1980s with an odd premise. That premise was to build giant burgers without letting the condiments get to you. You, the chef Peter Pepper, could drop a piece of the burger — a bun, meat patty, lettuce, what-have-you — on the killer condiments to bump them off the screen, or spray them with pepper to stun them. The game was quite popular in its day.

Great game.
A screenshot from way back when.

Instead of making giant burgers by running over ingredients with your feet, these are teeny tiny burgers made with your hands. If you're especially dexterous, feel free to use your tootsies. It'll remind you even more of the game, and give an authentic cheese smell to boot.

There's no baking involved, so no preheating excitement this time around. Next post we'll crank up the oven to 350F, maybe even 375F if I'm feeling extra sassy.

Ingredients:

1 box vanilla wafers
1 bag peppermint patties
Shredded coconut
Green food coloring
Red gel
Yellow frosting
Sesame seeds

Begin the burger with a vanilla wafer for the bottom bun. Unwrap a peppermint patty (keep the wrapper!) and place on top of the wafer.

Dab some yellow frosting — or should I say mustard — on top of the patty.

Burgers.

For the lettuce, drop the coconut in a ziplock bag and add several drops of green food coloring. Seal it up and shake until you get a nice green color. Add the lettuce on top of the burger patty.

Squirt some red gel on top of the lettuce for ketchup. You could use red frosting instead, but the gel has that shine that smacks more of ketchup.

Take another vanilla wafer and add the sesame seeds to the top of the cookie. To make the sesame seeds stick, dip your finger in a bowl of water and sprinkle a few drops on a vanilla wafer. Quickly pinch a few sesame seeds and drop on top.

Burgers.

For burger wrappers, use the leftover peppermint patty wrappers.

Cookie burger time!

Oh they look so good! A bit complicated for a quick snack but would be really impressive for a party! Bookmarked the page and will check back to see what else you add. The pacman cheesey biccys look yummy too and easy enough for even me to do! We'll have to have a retro gaming party sometime soon!
Thanks for the great pics!

Thanks for the kind words diane! :D

The pacman crackers are pretty tasty - they're a bit cheesier than normal goldfish crackers. The more cheese flavor the better I say!

Liz:

I don't remember that game, but the cookies are great! My three year-old will love them.

A VERY CONCERNED EMILY:

Why are you feeding your guinea pig chocolate?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Jason:

She doesn't actually feed that stuff to the pig pigs... It's just a good way to include pictures of those fatties!

Liz:

We made them tonight and they were a HUGE hit! My son is already asking when can he make them again. Thanks for the great idea.

rich h.:

one of my all time favorite arcade games and the cookies are perfect! you should come up with some other snacks!

Mel:

I LOVE BURGERTIME! I was wondering if you made up something for this...with the game having to do with food and all. and you did!

How creative and artistic! I know my kids would go crazy for them. I'll have to make some now.
