Cinnamon Star Cookies
May 7, 2007

Cinnamon Star CookiesIncredibly easy. The cookies have raisins, making it sound healthy.

Skill level:

Hey, not too rough.

The recipe:

1 1/2 cups butter
3 cups flour
1 cup granulated sugar
4 teaspoons cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Tiny box of raisins

Special Equipment:

Star cookie cutter

Preheat oven to 350F.

Ready...dump everything in the bowl!

Mmm, butter
Mmm, butter.

Mix! The dough is going to be pretty thick. If it's not, add a bit more flour, and work that dough.

You can eat this with a spoon.
Almost looks like chocolate.

Dust some flour down and roll out until the dough is 1/8" thick. Roughly. Doesn't have to be exact. Break out the star cookie cutter and start cutting and pasting the cut-out stars to a greased cookie sheet. You can try using a knife to cut out the shapes, but it's harder than it sounds.

I tried the knife tactic. I had the flour sprinkled on the counter, the dough rolled out, and then began digging in my cupboards for my star cookie cutter, only to discover it had been stolen by magic elves. Great. Broke out the pointy weaponry and tried eyeballing the star design. It was bad.

On the bright side, I now have a new star cookie cutter, along with some flower and some blobby cookie cutters, as they all came part of a package. Maybe the latter cookie cutters are supposed to be clouds or something. Or maybe a bush. I bet that's what it is.

If you're using a smaller cookie cutter, you'll want to slice up the raisin into slivers. Chop up the raisins (if needed) and smoosh into star cookies.

I used two whole raisins.
All raisined up.

Bake for 6-8 minutes. Makes 2-3 dozen, depending on the size of your cookie cutter and how much dough you ate.

Baked stars.
If you eat enough of these things you'll meet the USDA's daily fruit requirement.
